NSS Unit of SBS Government College

Overview

NSS Unit of SBS Government College, Hili was started in 2017. This unit is very much active since its establishment. Volunteers are so encouraged that they are engaged in many social activities besides their regular NSS activities. The Annual NSS camp was organized at Rainagar gram under Hili block. The camp began on the 27th of February and ended on 7thMarch, 2018. A total of 31students (NSS Volunteers) accompanied by NSS program officer, Abhijit Sarkar, assistant professor of SBS Government College, Hili participated enthusiastically in this camp. The theme of the NSS Camp held this year was SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN. Moreover, the Regular Activities of this unit include beautification of campuses, awareness campaign, tree plantation, education, health, environment, save water, save energy, disaster management, rural development, blood donation, awareness about social evils and other social issues.

Some important activities of NSS unit:

• Tree plantation program throughout the year. Principal, teachers and students actively participated. More than 50 various types of trees were planted.
• ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ campaigning started through a cleanliness drive to college premises.
• NSS Unit celebrated Desh Prem Diwas (23rd January), Republic Day and Independence Day with spirit of patriotism and competition on patriotic song, art, essay writing and speech.
• Celebration of Rakhi Utsav at Hili Block Hospital with patients and doctors
• NSS Unit organized a flood relief camp for flood victims. A heavy rainfall resulted in an unprecedented flood which affected the lives of common people especially poor people. NSS volunteers helped the victims though volunteers were also in trouble. They distributed medicine like paracetamol, metrozyle and ORS among the victims.
• World AIDS Day is celebrated on 1st December with community awareness program.
• Celebration of National Youth Day (12th January) with seminar talk program.
• Women’s Day is also celebrated by woman volunteers of NSS unit
